Joypurhat | 10 December 2025

Action and Light successfully organized a “Gaoner Goppo” (Public Study Circle) program on the occasion of Begum Rokeya Day on 10 December 2025 at the Action and Light office.

The program was arranged to honor the legacy of Begum Rokeya, a pioneer of women’s rights, education, and social reform in Bengal, and to create a community space for open discussion on gender equality, social justice, and women’s empowerment.

The study circle was facilitated by Dr. Sazzadul Bari, Executive Director of Action and Light, who highlighted Begum Rokeya’s lifelong struggle for women’s education and equal rights. He emphasized the relevance of her ideas in today’s social context, particularly in rural communities, and encouraged participants to actively challenge gender-based discrimination.

Advocate Shamsul Alam, Editor of Simanter Awaj, participated as a key discussant and shared his reflections on women’s rights, freedom of expression, and the role of progressive thinking in building an inclusive society. Other invited participants, including social activists, community members, and youth representatives, also took part in the discussion.

The “Gaoner Goppo” session followed an interactive and participatory format, allowing participants to share experiences, opinions, and perspectives on women’s empowerment, education, and social change at the grassroots level.

Through this program, Action and Light reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality, community dialogue, and rights-based awareness as part of its broader mission for inclusive and sustainable development.
