Action and Light Presents Sufi Heritage Research to District Stakeholders

On 31 March 2026 at 3:00 PM, at the District Commissioner’s Conference Room in Joypurhat, Action and Light, a research-driven development organization, formally handed over its self-funded research publication, The Spread of the Naqshbandi-Mujaddidi Sufi Order in North Bengal: The Role of Pir Syed Wazed Ali Mehedibagi (R) with Reference to Singerghari, Sarail and Ramshahar Darbar Sharif”, to the District NGO Coordination Committee. The book, authored by researcher Md. Rafiqul Islam, was published under the organization’s self-financed initiative, “Conservation and Revitalization of Spiritual Heritage of Northern Part of Bangladesh”, reflecting the organization’s commitment to evidence-based knowledge, cultural preservation, and community development.

The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Mr. Nurul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), and Mr. Jahangir Alam, Assistant Commissioner. From the NGO Coordination Committee, Mr. Motinur Rahman Motin, General Secretary of the Committee & Executive Director of ASO, and  Mahbuba Sarker, Executive Director of DMSS, joined along with representatives from national and local development organizations. Dr. Sazzadul Bari, Chairman of Action and Light, was also present.

Participants highly appreciated the initiative:

Mr. Nurul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Joypurhat, said: “Documenting Sufi heritage is vital for preserving our cultural identity and guiding future policy and cultural initiatives.”

Mr. Jahangir Alam, Assistant Commissioner, Joypurhat, added: “Such initiatives strengthen the link between history, community, and development, encouraging local knowledge generation.”

Mr. Motinur Rahman Motin, General Secretary, NGO Coordination Committee & Executive Director, ASO, remarked: “This self-funded research reflects strong local ownership and sets a positive example for knowledge-driven development.”

 Mahbuba Sarkar, Executive Director, DMSS, noted: “Collaboration between government and civil society is essential to safeguard intangible heritage and ensure inclusive development outcomes.”

Dr. Sazzadul Bari, Chairman, Action and Light, stated: “This initiative bridges research and development practice, preserving valuable cultural knowledge while contributing to sustainable communities.”
