Preserving Northern Bangladesh’s Sufi Heritage: Action and Light Unveils Research Book on the Naqshbandi–Mujaddidi Tradition

As part of its ongoing effort to document and preserve the spiritual heritage of Northern Bangladesh, Action and Light has unveiled a research-based publication titled “The Spread of the Naqshbandi-Mujaddidi Sufi Order in North Bengal: The Role of Pir Syed Wazed Ali Mehedibagi (R) with Reference to Singerghari, Sarail and Ramshahar Darbar Sharif.” The book is authored by researcher Md. Rafiqul Islam and published under the organization’s self-financed initiative, “Conservation and Revitalization of Spiritual Heritage of Northern Part of Bangladesh.”

The unveiling ceremony took place on 27 February 2026 at Singerghari Juhuriya Darbar Sharif, bringing together a large gathering of Sufi followers, scholars, and community members. The cover of the book was jointly unveiled by Shah Golam Murtaza Azizi, Dr. Sazzadul Bari, and the author Md. Rafiqul Islam, in the presence of thousands of devotees.

The research publication explores the historical spread and spiritual influence of the Naqshbandi–Mujaddidi Sufi Order in North Bengal, with a particular focus on the contributions of Pir Syed Wazed Ali Mehedibagi (R.) and the important spiritual centers associated with Singerghari, Sarail, and Ramshahar Darbar Sharif. By combining oral history, community memory, and historical references, the book contributes to the preservation of an important dimension of the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage

To promote wider access to this knowledge resource, Action and Light has also initiated the distribution of the publication to relevant public institutions and spiritual centers. Copies were formally handed over to the District Administration Joypurhat, received by Al Mamun Mia and Md. Zahangir Alam.

The book has also been presented to Ramshahar Darbar Sharif, received by its Pir Mahmud Hossain, as well as to public libraries and other relevant institutions to support research, education, and cultural awareness.

Through initiatives such as this publication and its dissemination, Action and Light seeks to strengthen documentation of local knowledge systems and spiritual traditions, while encouraging research, dialogue, and preservation of the diverse cultural heritage of Northern Bangladesh for future generations.
